I really like the somewhat controlled mess that the first half track is, kinda like a ultra-slow motion explosion. To be honest the only thing that I will nit-pick about this absolute banger is the fact the second half of the track has so much "separate track" potential.

That's about it for what I will say for now, feeling a bit ill atm ;(

Thank you for the review! Yeah, I really wanted that kind of stream-of-consciousness type vibe. Sounds like I delivered! I have gotten that complaint before, the reason it got included here is in my response to Dynamic's comment on the topic.
Coincidentally, I've been sick for like the past week too! Crazy, right?

H O O O L Y .

This is some great stuff! I love how ethereal everything sounds, from the pads, to the reverbed instruments and lead. This sounds like something Porter Robinson would make back in the day. Overall, a well deserved frontpage!

Only complaint is the drums. They are fine as they are, but I can tell you are kinda limited with them for the most part. Again, they are fine, and that is as much as I can nit-pick for this; it's simply that good!

Keep it up, and good luck for next year! (And a merry late christmas!)

OVERSCORE responds:

Thank youuuu!
The pads were interesting to make, because normally they took a while to fade in and change notes due to the reverb, but altering the reverb subtracted from its amazing sound, so I made a separate instrument for each chord.
I don’t really have any good snare drum samples, and my basses don’t truly work as well with what I’m doing as I would like. I may ask you for good drum samples later.
Thanks, merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Jesus, this track is actually so good!

The triplets are just so satisfying to hear throughout, and the whole beat and pace of the track is just such ear candy for me. Not to mention you've used one of my favourite minor keys ever and made such an interesting progression with it.

By this point, I think it goes without saying that you are an absolute master of composition; you will just take any scale and figure out how it is meant to feel. I have to give you my deepest kudos on that. I can only wish to possess such talent and prowess in this regard. Keep it up!

Your mixing has improved soooo much in the last year alone! Even though I'm semi-confident that this isn't your best mix I have heard from you, it's definitely up there. You have definitely put a lot of care into figuring out how this convoluted mess of EQs and filters we call the mixing world.

The structure of the song itself is as expected; some verses, a few drops here in there with all that energy pumping out and a few bridges to transition from one part to the other. It's a simple formula, but it definitely works, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it haha.

Keep this improvement up man! This is what I love to see!

OVERSCORE responds:

Yeah, I really wanted to try something I haven’t in a while with the triplets, and A minor is such an emotional key that it just seemed to work for me.

As for the scale, yeah scales are all pretty different and seem to have different feels. Some are emotional, others are angry, mysterious, euphoric, hopeful, you name it! No one will ever quite master the art of picking the right key for the feeling you want a song to have, but we might as well try, because the scale of a song can really affect the overall mood!

This mix definitely isn’t my best, I agree. Not my worst though. That was one of the reasons I almost didn’t release it, actually— I wasn’t confident about the mix. But hey, a mix doesn’t have to be amazing for music to sound great!

True, the structuring wasn’t too creative, but good thing it works well enough for you to still enjoy this song!

Thank you so much, and good luck on YOUR future projects!

"La leggenda" is back! I still remember you after so long haha

I really like your overall take on the drift phonk genre here. I think you have done a great job at arranging different elements from different genres together. I especially enjoyed the vocal chops you added to a couple of sections of the track, because I feel it really fit the whole idea.

Although I am not the greatest fan of phonk personally, I still think this is really really good for what it's worth. Great job, and welcome back!

EDIT: Check my new stuff, I am sure you will like it! :D

Dart-Music responds:

Some might just say that I always come back...

Anyway, I indeed came back to uploading not only here on NG, but on other platforms too finally! Finally getting back from the production hell I was in a couple months back and it feels good.

Also, on another note, this is not really the upload that made me come back, but I recently uploaded an EP of 4 tracks here on NG too that I was planning for a long time, so check that out too when you got time.

That being said, thank you for still sticking around!

Absolutely sick track! I love the distorted pluck melody, and I love how clean everything feels in the whole track: from the sub that manages to be very loud whilst also being warm and calming, to the fantastic choice in instrumentation and the sound design stuff in between. Amazing work!

The first drop is actually insane. I am truly in love with it! I feel like not many people make EDM the way you do: there is just so much life and emotion in the way you make this genre specifically. It's not a coincidence that both times I remixed a track of yours, it was an EDM track haha

That keys melody at 2:50 hits every single musical weak spot in me. I can't think of anything I would have changed in that part to be honest. That section is just perfect, and transitions perfectly into the short buildup to the 2nd drop. I also really liked the 2nd drop itself, but I think I would have personally changed the speed of the chords at 3:29 to prevent messiness, but it turned out ok.

The drop lead-out is just too good. It is just so emotional and nice, especially because of that B flat chord that turns major. Holy hell did I love that little note change in the chord! It also transitions very well into the outro in my opinion, really wouldn't change anything there.

I love how you decided to re-introduce the intro into the outro with more elements put into it. It is a really nice touch, and I think it made the outro way more interesting than just making it symmetric (as in the same as the intro).

Wonderful job on this! I am absolutely astonished by the level of prowess you have on SunVox, and I will never be able to stress enough how much I admire how you can do so much with so little.

Evolve EP maybe lol? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

OVERSCORE responds:

Thank you! This melody is probably one of my best yet, and as for the clean mix, I learned from the best!

The first drop is my favorite part… probably the reasons not many people make EDM like I do are 1) I’m on SunVox and 2) I’m always trying to do things different, and 3) I put a lot of emotion and feels into it XD. Glad it’s working out. Yeah, I guess I like EDM… dubstep when :0

I love making complex piano/keys melodies like this, so I’m glad someone else likes them too. The 2nd drop chords were the only thing I could think to put there, because I didn’t want to just do the same thing as the first drop.

Figured I could tie the whole thing together with the last section.

Thank you so much! SunVox is a very volatile tool, it’s served me well so far, but I can’t wait to get FL Studio!

I mean, I could… >:D

I really really enjoyed the whole tone of the track! I think the chords and melody are very well composed, and I would imagine the whole vibe fits the lyrics you put in the description. Great job on the whole composer stuff!

This is definitely the cleanest track I have heard from you. The reverb problem I remember you having a while ago is just not there on this song, so I will give you kudos for figuring your mixes out! Only thing I would really fix is making those drums stay more up-front in the mix so you can hear them really punch through that tiny bit more, but that's just a nit-pick and I think the song sounds great as it is.

Also, your song-writing is really good! I am not a punk rock connoisseur by any means, so I can't really say if the lyrics follow a similar vibe to 2007 punk rock, but I still can appreciate the whole poetic structure of the lyrics. It looks like you have done your bit of writing outside of music!

Overall, really really good! Can't wait for the EP release!

bipolarmunkey responds:

I appreciate that so much! Definitely think this is one of my cleaner ones. Glad you enjoyed it!

I think this remix is pretty good to be fair. It has a pretty nice dynamic melody and really cool instruments complimenting it. To be honest though, I agree with underscore on the mixing aspects. The lows and highs are too quiet, so the mix ends up sounding quite hollow in a way. Try paying attention to that on your next tracks!

This has a lot of potential!

Dynamic0 responds:

Thanks for the review!

Wow, I really like the arrangement of this track! The intro reminded me a lot of Dimrain47 for some reason (in a good way), and the dance sections are really uplifting in my opinion. I like the way you mashed up these two fantastic songs into one as if this was how it was meant to be.

The only parts I am not super sure about are the dubstep sections, since the intensity of those sections aren't really congruent with the rest. But hey, apart from that, everything is fantastic! I can definitely imagine this being used in a Rhythm Heaven mod or something; the vibe is just too similar!

P.s. What is it with these key changes? Everyone in the contest is just so good at them holy moly!

BLOCKY-Bearclaw responds:

Thanks for your feedback! Yeah Dimrain47 has been one of my inspiring artists for a long time. You and underscore make a valid point about those dub sections, so I’ll change ‘em up and release an updated version…

Lol the key changes yeah

THIS REMIX IS INSANE OMG! Yup, this one is definitely better than the v1. The mix is much cleaner, the arrangement is more interesting, the key change is crazy good. I mean, this is beyond an improvement!

G2961 responds:

Yes, thank you, but need to work on the pre-drop

Hi, just checking in on everyone's contest submissions here!

First of all, you made all that in 8 hours? I have got to give you a round of applause for your efficient music making. I think that this remix turned out really really well for it being made so quickly.

I love the layers! The chords are very well designed and the simplicity of them actually works really well in context. I also really enjoyed the vocal chops and tiny additions in instrumentation here and there in the drops.

The only thing I would criticise about this track is the loudness/mix. Maybe it's just my taste, but I feel that the highs are either too loud or the mid frequencies are too quiet, so everything ends up leaving you with a weird ring in your hear.

That's about it though for criticism, truthfully I can't find anything else to criticise besides the mix. Your track is just really good!

G2961 responds:

Thank you! Yes, the treble sounds bad here, I didn't want to fix it because I made a second version of this remix, it's better, though shorter and there are problems in the pre-drop
